Retreat Time!

The second Neumann/Pocock lab retreat is from Nov 30th - Dec 1st at Fairhaven/Airey's Inlet, near the beach on the Great Ocean Road in Victoria.

This is a great team bonding event, full of great food, swimming, cricket/soccer on the beach, games, and some work activities. This year our work activities involved groups of two presenting topics related to Equality and Diversity, Work/Life Balance, Managing Conflicts, Dealing With Stress, and Non-verbal communication.

Australian C. elegans Meeting

The whole Neumann lab is attending the Australian C. elegans Symposium (ACeS) held at the Queensland Brain Institute, The University of Queensland.

We are presenting our research across three talk (Joe, Seb, Michelle), and three posters (Ming, Simran, Nethmi), and Simran will be chairing a session.

A wonderful opportunity to bring the Australian C. elegans community together to meet and share our science!

Brent is attending the Students of Brain Research (SoBR) symposium today at the Melbourne Brain Centre.  He is serving as an invited judge for the poster sessions.

Brent Invited to Speak at ComBio 2017

Brent has been invited to speak at the ComBio 2017 meeting held in Adelaide - see details of the conference here.

Brent's talk is entitled: "Phosphatidylserine 'save-me' signals drive functional recovery of severed axons in Caenorhabditis elegans", and covers much of the work that we recently had accepted for publication in PNAS.

Brent invited to speak at the Florey Institute

Brent has been invited to present his research at the Florey Institute for Neuroscience and Mental Health.

His talk is titled "Fuse it or lose: highly efficient repair of the nervous system through axonal fusion".

In addition to his seminar, Brent is visiting potential collaborators at both the Murdoch Children's Research Institute and at the Florey.

Brent Attending the MOHHA Meeting

Brent is attending the Model Organisms in Human Health Australia meeting in Victoria's Yarra Valley.

Brent is a co-organiser for this meeting, is chairing a session, and will be presenting a poster presentation on our research concerning regenerative axonal fusion.

Brent and Ming Presenting at the C. elegans Meeting in Los Angeles

Both Brent and Ming are attending and presenting at the 21st International C. elegans Conference held at the University of California, Los Angeles campus.

Brent will be presenting a Plenary talk entitled "Phosphatidylserine ‘save-me’ signals drive functional recovery of severed axons" on Thursday afternoon.

Ming is presenting a poster entitled "Characterising behavioural defects of the C. elegans model of CMT2A" on Thursday night.

Brent is also serving as a judge for one of the poster sessions.

ASMR Student Symposium

Michelle and Sebastien are presenting their research at the ASMR Victorian Student Symposium held at The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research (https://asmr.org.au/asmr-mrw/victoria/).

Michelle was selected to present her research in a 3-minute oral presentation, and Sebastien will be presenting a poster.

Brent Invited to Speak at the National Functional Genomics Workshop

Brent accepted an invitation to present the Neumann Lab's research at the Rare Disease Functional Genomics Workshop held at Murdoch Childrens Research Institute, Melbourne.

Brent represented the Australian C. elegans community in order to highlight the value of this model system for medical research.  The title of his talk was: Modeling Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease in C. elegans.
