Brent joins the ASMR Board of Directors

Brent has accepted an invitation to become an ASMR Director from Nov 13th, 2017.

The Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) is Australia's peak body representing medical researchers in Australia. It has vital roles in advocating science to government, supporting early and mid career researchers, and bringing the importance of science to society at large.  More information of the ASMR can be found here.

Brent will lead the professional development portfolio.  Through this, ASMR aims to educate and inform early and mid career researchers by way of workshops and mentoring opportunities.  Brent is keen to expand the program to make it a nationally recognised platform that provides crucial information for those in the sector.

This is a tremendous honour and Brent is very excited to begin this role.

Nethmi wins presentation prize!!

Nethmi has won a prize for her poster presentation at the Australian C. elegans Symposium!!

Her presentation was awarded an Honourable Mention - one of only four prize winners at the conference!

Congratulation Nethmi! A very well deserved prize and a great outcome from your first ever conference.

Hanadi receives prestigious award

Hanadi's mini thesis entitled "MEC-17 overexpression leads to synaptic defects and activation of the DLK-1 neuronal remodelling program in C. elegans" has been Highly Commended in the Life Sciences category of The Undergraduate Awards Programme 2017!

This means that Hanadi's work is ranked within the top 10% of all global submissions - she is the only applicant from Australia to receive this award.

This is a wonderful achievement by Hanadi and highlights here impressive potential as a young scientist.

Congratulations Tarika x3!!

Tarika has been awarded three scholarships today!!

To support her during her PhD in the Neumann lab, Tarika has been awarded a Monash Graduate Scholarship (MGS), as well as a Monash International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (MIPRS).  These scholarships cover the costs of the degree and provide a living allowance.

In addition to these two awards, Tarika also received a Faculty Postgraduate Excellence Award.  These are highly prestigious awards offered to the top two applicants in the scholarship round, as judged by academic merit and research potential.  This award provides an additional living allowance for Tarika on top of the MGS.

Ming receives Travel Award!

Ming has been awarded a Travel Award from the Genetics Society of America to attend the 21st International C. elegans Meeting being held June 21-25 at the University of California, Los Angeles.  The award comes with US $500 to support travel costs.

This is Ming's second travel award to attend this meeting! She previously received an award from the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute.

Ming has been awarded a highly competitive Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute travel award!

This award will allow Ming to present her research at the 2017 International C. elegans meeting held in Los Angeles in June.

Brent wins the 2016 Paxinos-Watson Award!!

Brent has been awarded the 2016 Paxinos-Watson Award from the Australasian Neuroscience Society!

The award is for the most signficant Australian neuroscience paper published in 2015, and is in recognition of Brent's paper published in Nature.

Grace Receives First Class Honours!!

Grace has received a First Class (H1) grade for her Honours year!  Grace is the Neumann lab's first Honours student.

This is a wonderful achievement by Grace, and one that is extremely important for the next phase of her career.  This is also thoroughly deserved after Grace's excellent performance over the year and especially given the immense volume of data that she managed to generate in the lab.

Valerie Receives Internship to The University of British columbia!

Valerie has been successful in her application for the highly competitive Mitacs Globalink Research Internship.  Through this program Valerie will join ​Tim O'Connor's lab at The University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) for a 3 month research project mid next year.
